In March 2020 we took a step back and assessed ourselves and realised that as a service, we needed to change. Due to the nature of our service, which was primarily reablement and assessment to discharge in partnership with City Care, we were often task orientated. This meant that we supported individuals based on tasks and often physical needs and prioritised these physical needs over anything else. We place a focus on developing our home and service to reflect what is considered to be the gold standards in health and social care and have used many examples of what is considered best practice to underpin our approach to care. These include participating in the Gold Standard Framework for End of Life Care, adopting Professor Tom Kitwood’s Flower Approach for personhood and using a Biopsychosocial model of care which focusses on considering biological, psychological and socio-environmental factors. We have embraced a Montessori approach to dementia care and developed our amazing Well-Being Team.

Our suites are two very different spaces as they serve two very different purposes. Both support up to 37 individuals receive care and treatment. In addition to our suites we also have a central hub which currently houses our Connect Corner Store selling toiletries, sweets and snacks, small gift items and day to day purchases. We are also in the process of creating our Connect Railway Carriage which will be perfect for afternoon cream teas in the Summer!
